Over the years, Bruce and Cyndie have found certain fruit jams and preserves that deliver purity and intensity of fruit flavor. Many brands of fruit jams lack purity and intensity of fruit flavor, making them essentially worthless in our opinion. Some jams are also too runny or too overcooked. We grew to strongly favor the Hero brand of jams (fruit spreads), out of Switzerland, that have purity and richness. Fruit jams of the Bonne Maman brand, out of France, and the Darbo brand, out of Austria, are generally quite good. Considering quality fruit jams produced in the USA, we managed to find Scherger’s Kettle, a family owned and operated enterprise in Indiana. These jams are made by Amish farm ladies, and are all about tasting the exquisite, ripe fruit. You taste the purity and intensity of the fruit, not just sugary sweetness. Attention to detail, lots of quality fresh fruit, and the finest ingredients are the key to these excellent products. They deliver distinctive fruit flavor!
Most jams on the market are 35% fruit, but Scherger’s Kettle regular jams have a minimum of 45% fruit. The all-natural, low-sugar jams have a minimum of 70% fruit by weight content and use evaporated cane juice to sweeten and enhance the fruit flavor. Note that we offer red raspberry and blackberry jams as two versions, naturally seeded or seedless.
